Your Destination For Everything

Finally, your journey for information on golf ends here! This blog contains everything you need to know in the golf world, from instruction on the game to the latest news in the sport! Whether you are a beginner, an expert, or in between, this blog has something for you.

Welcome to Jake’s Blog

This is my introductory post! This blog is about me and my passions, mainly consisting of the latest news and techniques from the sports world.

My name is Jake, I am a college student athlete golfer. I have always had a passion for competition, which has driven me to learn and develop skills that allow me to compete with others. While I have taken golf to the next level, I have picked up hobbies along the way such as sports like football, baseball, basketball, soccer, poker, you name it. This is the place where you can learn about the things that I myself and others find interesting. Whether it is for educational purposes or just to find out what’s happening in the world, this is the entertainment and educational hub for you.

Why do this?

  • I am focused on sharing my knowledge with the world, maybe we can develop this into something that betters the world!
  • I want to get my thoughts out there, to others who can learn or build upon them

The following is an introduction about me, who I am, and how I got here!

  • I have played sports since I could breathe, playing baseball, football, basketball, you name it!
  • I picked up golf my freshman year of high school and haven’t stopped since.
  • I now play golf at St. Edwards University, I am now in my sophomore season.

Sports are my passion! On this page, my vision is to promote the latest sports news, and teach the best techniques to better your game on and off the field. The purpose of this blog has a hidden meaning though. One day if the blog grows to what I hope it could be, I hope to start a charity that can use this site as a springboard. Don’t worry the site would still continue to exist, I just need a fanbase that can help out those in need. My ultimate goal in life is to give back.

The golf world is where I find my home, although I give attention to other sports. I believe I can provide the best instruction, news, and updates that are happening in the golf world because of how hugely invested I am in it. Competitive golf is not just about the golf, it comes with a lifestyle. From diet and nutrition, to recovery and mental health, there is more to the game than what is on the surface.

St. Edwards university in Austin, TX is where I now call home. For golf this is great, Austin is home to the Dell WGC Matchplay, and a multitude of premier golf clubs that will be toured and rated on this site. Also, I hope to bring the best stories to you about Austin sports, from the junior to pro levels there are a ton of sports to be covered, and this is a great spot to get your information from for any Austin sporting event.

Hi. My name is Jake Livermore, and this is my proper introduction as to who I am, and why I should be seen as credible.

I was from Dallas, TX, home of the Dallas Cowboys, Stars and Mavericks, and Texas Rangers. These of course are my favorite teams who I grew up watching and admiring, but more on that later.

I was born on August 1st of the year 2000, which puts me at the age of 19 years old. I grew up and lived in Dallas the entirety of my life up until the age of 18. My family and I moved around within the metroplex a couple of times, but ultimately found ourselves in a similar place each time.

I grew up with two brothers, Will and Brock, who are both younger than me but have bright futures ahead of them. Will, a big golfer just like I am, is looking to get recruited as he is finding his way through school. Brock, is a training esports athlete, which brings some spice to our lives, as he is part of the rapidly rising and constantly evolving culture of video games, computers, the internet, etc. A new breed of athlete if you will.

Back to me, I started my sporting career by playing a multitude of sports at a very young age. I started out my sporting career by playing baseball, and then later moving to flag football. I found both sports to be the most appealing although I still played other sports like basketball just to try them out. In middle school I started tackle football which was a lot of fun and definitely a very challenging task. I continued to play baseball all my life up until my freshman year of high school where I then found golf. Golf was different because it was a way to challenge yourself mentally and physically, but the difference was there is such a camaraderie around the game. It is great for business and for life. As I went through high school, I focused on my golf game more than anything I would say other than academics. This led to me becoming a decent player in a quick amount of time, which allowed me the opportunity to play golf at the collegiate level.

As of now I play golf at St Edwards University. We are a competitive team that has our eyes set on a national championship. I believe that being a part of a team like this allows me a different viewpoint than a lot of other people have because I am working towards a bigger goal over a long period of time at a young age. There is more to the game with golf than just playing golf itself. Such as working out, dieting, time management etc. which I believe people will find beneficial knowledge.

Blog #4 (My golf putting practice):

This is my third blog post about my practice. The following explains how I go about a normal day of practice and why the things I do are beneficial to me.

When I first get to the course, the first thing I do is go to the putting green to check alignment. Putting is in my opinion the most important aspect of the game of golf. If you have confidence in your putting then there is a trickle-down effect. This is something that many golfers have experienced before, nothing new. That trickle-down effect allows you the luxury of having less pressure on the other parts of your game such as chipping irons and tee shots.

In order to check alignment I put down an alignment stick that aligns my feet towards the hole. I do this from distances of 3 and 4 feet and hit about 10 putts from each. This allows me to get set up over the ball correctly and rolling putts in the most efficient manner.

After I finish this short drill I will hit 50 three footers in a row. This sounds excessive but from my personal experience it gives me the most confidence. The ability to watch the ball go in the hole, hear the ball go in the hole, and pick up the ball out of the hole is incredibly beneficial for me.

After I complete this task, I move on to a drill that many professional players use on the PGA Tour and other professional tours. From 30 feet uphill I hit putts to a semicircle that is dictated by 3 tees. One is 2 feet to the left of the hole, another 2 feet to the right of the hole, and a third one directly behind the hole. The goal of this drill is to get 11 points. The player gets 1 point for putting their ball into the semicircle and 3 points for making the putt. The hard part about the game itself is that if a ball ends up outside of the semicircle you must start your score back at 0. When I am done doing this drill from the uphill angle I will then do it from the downhill angle. This forces me to see both sides of the green and allows me to get the best feel for the greens before I prepare to play.

My third and final drill is called the 369 drill. The goal of this drill is to invoke a bit of pressure that is similar to that of a real round. Many of the clutch putts in key situations are inside of 10 feet. In this drill the player hits three putts from 3 feet, 6 feet, and 9 feet has to make all of them in a row in order to complete the drill. Generally, I will do this from 3 feet to 9 feet and then finish by reversing what I previously did and doing the drill from 9 feet to 3 feet.

Blog #5 (St. Edwards Golf):

This blog post is about the golf team that I play on at St Edwards University. We are currently ranked 18th in the country after 4 events. Those events were played in the fall of 2019 and we are now onto the spring season which is 2020. In college golf the spring season has more of an emphasis put on it because that is when the conference, regional, and national championships are held.

This fall we played 4 events. Starting in September the team played in Amarillo, then came to Austin for our home tournament in late September. In the month of October we played in Detroit and finished in Arkansas. The team finished 3rd in Amarillo, 1st in Austin, 5th In Detroit, 2nd in Arkansas. This was good for a huge boost in the rankings, putting us all the way to 18th in the country.

This spring season, the team will be competing in San Antonio, Las Vegas, Oklahoma, Austin, New Mexico, and Arlington. The team is looking forward to the events because the competition level is so high, but the players feel that they are the best in the country and can win each and every event. The team has already played in Laredo to start the season off and tied for 2nd, a good finish considering the circumstances. While the team would have liked to have won, this was a good way to start off the season and fire the team up for what is to come next.

In terms of what the team’s practice looks like, the team comes to the golf course each and every day eager to get better. Twice a week there are small group practices in which coaches can develop and train the players to be their very best. The players themselves challenge each other by playing countless rounds of golf against each other and competing against each other in order to simulate true tournament round. This is very important as it simulates the pressure of a real live event better than anything else. Golf is special in that aspect of things because a real tournament round can be simulated at any point in time whether the player is by themselves or with.
